This is a vintage Salter Spring Balance No 85 Scale. Made In England. To weight 300 lb By 1 lb. Also has a symbol that looks like a pretzel with Salter centered near the top, S centered under and an arrow going through the middle. The brass face is 10" in diameter. The iron hook is about 6 1/2"  long. The total height from the top ring to the bottom of the hook is 19".   This scale come from the Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock Company many years ago. I don't know which ship it was on or where it was used. It was refinished and lacquered about 25 years ago and the lacquer was badly worn so I stripped the lacquer off. May have a little left but still looks pretty good. This scale works but probably needs to be adjusted for accuracy.
